Connect2Kehilla is a free community program operated by Education on the Go Corp, a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 92-1172505), 446 Kingston Avenue, Apt B5, Brooklyn, NY 11225 (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and your choices. It covers the Connect2Kehilla mobile app (iOS and Android) and our SMS service at (888) 516-3399. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
1. Information We Collect — Mobile App
The app collects only what it needs to provide its features:
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you choose “Continue with Google,” Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us to create your account. We do not receive your Google password and we do not access your Gmail, Drive, or other Google data.
- Location (optional). With your permission, approximate or precise location is used to find the community, shuls, and minyan times nearest you. The app works fully without location access; you can decline or revoke it at any time in your device settings.
- Contacts (optional). Accessed only if you choose to invite friends. Contacts are used on your device to compose an invitation and are never uploaded to our servers or shared. The app works fully without contacts access.
- Push notification token. A device identifier issued by Apple or Google, stored so we can deliver the alerts and updates you opt into. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Content you submit. Posts, listings, jobs, classifieds, reviews, and reports you create. Approved community content is visible to other app users. Reports you file are visible only to our moderators.
- Diagnostic data. Basic, non-identifying app stability and error information may be collected to fix crashes and improve reliability.
2. Information We Collect — SMS Service
When you text (888) 516-3399, we collect your phone number and the content of your message (your search query and any ZIP code or area you provide). This is used solely to process your request and return results by text. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply; message frequency varies with your usage. Reply STOP to opt out of all messages, or HELP for assistance.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in
- To provide core features: shul and minyan times, zmanim, kosher directory, store specials, jobs, classifieds, and community alerts
- To deliver the notifications you opt into
- To review submitted content and keep the community safe
- To respond to your questions and requests
- To diagnose problems and improve the service
4. Third-Party Services We Use
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers that process data on our behalf, each under its own privacy and security terms. We do not sell data to anyone and we do not use advertising networks or third-party tracking.
- Supabase — secure database, authentication, and storage (hosts your account and content).
- Google — “Sign in with Google” (optional authentication only).
- Apple Push Notification service & Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
- Expo (EAS) — app build and push-notification routing infrastructure.
- Twilio — delivery of the SMS service (phone numbers and message content for SMS users only).
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only: (a) with the service providers listed above, strictly to operate the service; (b) as part of community content you choose to publish (which becomes visible to other users); or (c) if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the safety of our community.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. SMS phone numbers and search history are retained for up to 90 days to maintain service quality. When you delete your account (see below), we remove your personal data promptly. Publicly posted community content may be retained in anonymized form where needed for community integrity or required by law.
7. Account & Data Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and associated personal data at any time, directly in the app: open Profile → Delete Account. This removes your profile, push tokens, and personal submissions through a secure cascade. Alternatively, email contact@edonthego.org from your account email and we will delete your data within 30 days. SMS users can stop all messages and request deletion by texting STOP to (888) 516-3399.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data
- Withdraw permissions (location, contacts, notifications) in your device settings at any time
- Opt out of communications
We do not sell personal information, so there is no “Do Not Sell” to exercise. To make any request, contact us at contact@edonthego.org.
9. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with our infrastructure provider under industry-standard safeguards, including access controls and row-level security. Sensitive tokens on your device are stored in the platform’s secure keystore. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
10. Children's Privacy
Connect2Kehilla is intended for general community use and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Users
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you use the service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app or on-site notice.
